Vanessa Marquette

Vanessa Marquette joined the Newhouse School in fall 2024 as an adjunct professor in the public relations program. She teaches courses on social media for both service members in the advanced military visual journalism program and undergraduate students.

In her full-time role with Syracuse University’s Division of Communications, Vanessa works in media relations focusing with a focus on military and veterans, war, law, national security, government relations, geography and climate change, animal welfare and religion. She works to amplify faculty and staff expertise and university initiatives in local, regional, national and international media. She previously spent six years working on the communications team for the D’Aniello Institute for Veterans and Military Families and Office of Veteran and Military Affairs the University’s National Veterans Resource Center.

Vanessa began her career as a marketing specialist at a credit union in Fort Bragg, North Carolina, and later worked in the public affairs office at Fort Benning, Georgia. A native of Rome, New York, she grew up a proud Orange fan with her father being an alum.

She holds a master’s degree in public relations from the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications, as well as a master’s in integrated marketing communications and a bachelor’s in psychology with a minor in journalism and mass communication from St. Bonaventure University. Vanessa lives in Syracuse with her husband and their three rescue dogs. Outside of work, she volunteers in public relations and social media for Best Friends Animal Society, runs a travel blog and manages the viral social media accounts of her dog, Nola.
