Looking for your next great hire? Look to the Newhouse School. Our award-winning students come to campus with a passion for communications and leave with the education and hands-on experience they need to shape a fast-changing industry.
The Newhouse Career Development Center offers a host of recruiting assistance services for communications employers.
You can distribute your organization’s open jobs or internships to Newhouse students and alumni. Internship opportunities are circulated in our email newsletters for students. Job opportunities are listed in JobOps, a monthly newsletter sent to more than 7,000 alumni subscribers. This service is free to employers.
The best way to engage with students and gain brand recognition is to visit Syracuse University. The CDC welcomes employers to campus to meet and interact with students. There are several options! You can select one or a variety that works best for your schedule and budget.
Information sessions: These are the most popular choice for companies looking to engage with students. We recommend that, instead of focusing on the basic company overview (content students can easily research online), create exclusive content about specific opportunities or programs, a “day in the life” and/or “behind the scenes” to showcase company culture.
Industry and/or career workshops: Workshops can focus on an area of the job that students wouldn’t learn in class or a case study or project that the students could collaborate on.
Office hours and/or a coffee chat: Office hours or a coffee chat are a great way to give students the flexibility to meet you around their busy class schedule. Students may bring résumés, or you can keep things more casual.
Student interviews: Take advantage of your time on campus to conduct preliminary screening of applicants for internships and/or entry-level roles.
Information table: Staff a company table at Newhouse to interact with students on a more causal basis.
The CDC is here to help. We look forward to working with you to find the best recruiting option to maximize your efforts. Campus visits are free! To discuss any of the options above or pitch another means of engagement, contact Bridget Lichtinger at belichti@syr.edu.
Not able to come to campus? The CDC can assist in coordinating a virtual information session, panel discussion or virtual interviews instead. Contact Bridget Lichtinger at belichti@syr.edu to discuss the best way to virtually engage with students.
Each fall, the Newhouse School partners with the Whitman School of Management to welcome leaders in the business and communications industries looking for potential interns and entry-level talent. The Business and Communications Career Fair allows employers to meet hundreds of students, not only from Newhouse and Whitman but also from across campus. For more information, contact Bridget Lichtinger at belichti@syr.edu.
Each spring, the Newhouse School welcomes professionals from top-notch communications companies who are looking for entry-level talent. The Communications Recruitment Days allow employers to meet students who have a communications focus. Employers can engage with students during the Career Fair on the first day and in one-on-one interviews the following day. Employers are welcome to attend one or both days. If your company is interested in learning more about Newhouse Communications Recruitment Days and why it is a must-attend event, contact Bridget Lichtinger at belichti@syr.edu.
