Sharon Kanter is a fashion news editor turned fashion brand builder and fashion writing professor.
Currently, she is the senior director, head of communications and content at New York luxury footwear brand Stuart Weitzman. In her role, and as part of the brand’s executive leadership team, she oversees the brand-building pieces of the business. In the communications area, this includes: talent partnerships and campaigns, influencer partnerships and campaigns, brand partnerships, organic social, earned media, global events, social impact, and internal and executive communications. In the content area, her scope includes overseeing the editorial department and brand voice, content concepting, operations and project management.
Prior to Stuart Weitzman, she spent over a decade as a fashion journalist covering celebrity, fashion, beauty and entertainment. In 2016, she joined PEOPLE magazine and PEOPLE.COM as the deputy style director, serving the brand’s 46 million readers by producing digital, print, social and video content for the style and beauty verticals. Previously, she held positions at INSTYLE and INSTYLE.COM: As senior editor, she ran the news section of the magazine, covering parties, news, award shows and festivals, while as digital fashion news editor, she produced over 4,000 pieces of content for the fashion site.
In 2010, she launched MTV.COM’s fashion vertical, MTV STYLE, as its founding editor, building the site and her team from the ground up. Starting in 2007, she worked at NEW YORK magazine, where she wrote about fashion and beauty as one of the founding members of THE CUT, as well as covered the New York scene as a party reporter. Throughout her career, she has interviewed hundreds of celebrities, designers and creatives.
Sharon holds an M.B.A. in marketing from Baruch College and graduated Summa Cum Laude from Syracuse University with a B.S. dual degree in magazine journalism and communication and rhetorical Studies. Since 2020, she has taught fashion journalism as an adjunct professor at the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University.
She is an avid reader, runner and writer. She lives in New York City with her husband, three young children, and mom.
