Bio:

Se Jung Kim, a Ph.D. candidate at the Newhouse School, has focused his research around the topic of media psychology including cognitive information processing and psychological/behavioral impacts in different formats of emerging media. Under the umbrella of media psychology, he studies HCI/Immersive media (Mixed Reality, Avatar, Smart speaker, Game Study), Risk/Health Communication (Risk perception, Pandemic, Preventive behavior), and News/Journalism (Fake news, Social Media, Credibility & Perception). Se Jung also specialized in psychophysiological methods and communication research. He is currently involved with a research grant project from Facebook Reality Labs with advisor, Dr. Makana Chock.

Kim’s papers have appeared in Journalism and Mass Communication Quarterly, Computers in Human Behavior, and International Journal of Human-Computer Studies. He regularly attends and presents his works at the annual conferences of the International Communication Association (ICA), the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication (AEJMC), and the National Communication Association (NCA) and has won student top paper awards. He holds a M.A. and Certificate Advanced Study (CAS) in Data Science from Syracuse University and earned his B.A. and M.A. in Journalism & Mass Communication from Dongguk University in South Korea.
