Jannie Huang (she/her) is an adjunct professor in the visual communications department at the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications. She teaches foundational design principles for students in the communications field.
Before coming to Syracuse, Huang spent 11 years as creative director and co-owner, alongside her wife, of Little Green Pickle, a website design and public relations agency in Portland, Oregon focused on the food and beverage industry. During that same period, she was creative director and partner at Feast Portland, the Bon Appétit–backed food and beverage festival where she oversaw web and creative production. Earlier in her career, she was a designer at FoodNetwork.com in New York working on UI/UX and design projects on behalf of the network.
Huang's work centers on design strategy, taking a full view of a client's business, audience and goals to drive strategic communications and long-term success. In the classroom, she helps students understand how strong visuals and thoughtful content work together to strengthen storytelling.
Over the course of her involvement with Feast Portland, the festival raised more than $500,000 for charity. She also volunteers her time and marketing expertise to CNY Pride, supporting the local LGBTQIA+ community in Central New York. Huang earned a B.A. from the University of Massachusetts Amherst in 2000.
