Hal Silverman teaches undergraduate and graduate students the commercial and advertising side of the photography industry, post-production and workflow, and professional business practices. He brings his 35+ years of professional photography and studio ownership experience into the classroom to provide students with a real-world knowledge of what it takes to understand and succeed in this highly competitive industry.
Bio
Hal Silverman is an international award-winning commercial photographer and president of Hal Silverman Studio Inc. Providing commercial photography and 3D imaging services to an extensive list of advertising agencies, graphic design firms and corporations worldwide, Silverman stays at the forefront of digital photography and imaging.
On the educational side, Hal Silverman has been teaching at Syracuse University for 14 years, concentrating his efforts in studio photography, post-production and business. He also is instrumental in organizing underwater photography workshops through VIS, bringing students together from around the world to learn alongside top photographers from National Geographic.
Silverman has photographed, produced and collaborated on projects that have been published in National Geographic Magazine and The New York Times Magazine as well as cookbooks, catalogs and consumer product packaging currently in circulation. He also has been awarded inclusion in the Communication Arts Photography Annual, Print Magazine Design Annual and Archive Magazine, and he has been a recipient of more than 20 photography awards presented by the American Advertising Federation.
For more than 10 years, Silverman sat on the Western New York Region Board of Directors of the American Society of Magazine Photographers and served as president for three. He is actively engaged in educating photographers on professional business practices and frequently guest lectures at various venues and educational institutions.
