Barbara E. Jones is an award-winning documentary producer and media executive whose career has encompassed leadership roles in television programming and marketing, advertising and audience research, and interactive media in the U.S. and Canada. 

An entrepreneur at heart, she currently serves at the helm of her consulting firm SailorJones Media. Her professional experience includes the following roles: vice president of programming and marketing for power broadcasting, vice president of online broadcasting for Alliance Atlantis, director of research for Western Broadcast Sales, management consultant – programming and scheduling at The Travel Channel, and director of international online for weather.com, where she led its launch globally.

In 2023, Jones received Professor Emerita honors from Syracuse University where she taught for over a decade as a professor of practice in the television, radio and film department of the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications. 

Jones holds an MSc in television, radio and film from Syracuse University and a bachelor of applied arts, radio/television arts from Toronto Metropolitan University (formerly Ryerson University). She has participated in management studies at the College of William and Mary, and at Harvard University.

Jones is currently writing the textbook "Fundamentals of Television Business" (WT) for educational publisher Routledge/Focal Press. It is expected to enter media studies classrooms worldwide in Fall 2026.

She also recently completed her first dramatic pilot script - "WILD DEVILS: THE DOANS" - about a family gang of Quaker Loyalist outlaws during the American Revolution.
