Youngji Seo (she/her/hers) joined the Newhouse School in Fall 2023 as a tenure-track assistant professor in the public relations program. She teaches classes in social media and society, public relations research and public relations campaigns.
Prior to joining Syracuse University, Seo was an assistant professor of instruction in the Klein College of Media and Communication at Temple University. She was previously instructor of record and teaching/research assistant at the University of Georgia’s Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication. Soe’s industry experience includes three years as a public relations officer at a non-profit organization under the Korean Ministry of Gender Equality and Family.
Seo’s research interests involve psychological perspective on strategic communication with a specific focus on building resilience, crisis recovery and information processing as applied to public relations and promotional health risk communication.
She has published numerous refereed journal articles, served as a research fellow for several grant projects, and was awarded the top student paper award at the 2021 National Communication Association convention.
Seo holds a Ph.D. in mass communication and journalism from the University of Georgia, an M.A. from Sogang University in South Korea, and a B.F.A. from Konkuk University in South Korea.
