Natasha Senjanovic

Natasha Senjanovic (she/her) is an award-winning, multilingual reporter/producer/editor who joined Syracuse University in May 2023 as a Professional in Residence at the Newhouse School. She serves as a bridge between the NPR affiliate WAER News — producing original reporting and overseeing student journalists — and teaching audio broadcasting to undergraduates. 

Senjanovic specializes in data- and trauma-informed coverage of gender-based violence (GBV) and vulnerable populations. Her serial work includes the Pulitzer Center-backed "Surging in Silence" (2021), a 17-part series examining the pandemic’s effects on domestic and sexual violence; and the investigative miniseries "Left Without Care" (2020), about for-profit youth psychiatric centers. 

In 2021-22, Senjanovic served as temporary editor for NPR News, one of the country’s largest public radio newsrooms. From 2016-2019, she was "All Things Considered" anchor and a reporter for Nashville Public Radio. Prior to that, she spent more than a decade in Rome, working for leading international trades, including Cineuropa (senior editor), The Hollywood Reporter (Italy critic) and Screen International (Italy correspondent). Before returning full-time to the U.S. in 2015, she was contributing editor for the bilingual geopolitical magazine EastWest.

Senjanovic is co-creator of "I Wish I’d Known," media training for newsrooms nationwide aimed at improving historically misinformed coverage of GBV. Her national radio work has aired on NPR, Marketplace and Here & Now, among others. Her first public radio featurewon a Regional Edward R. Murrow Award. Other prizes include Public Media Journalists Association and The Associated Press awards for best collaborative work, features and anchor.

Senjanovic is a graduate of Evergreen State College, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts.
