Julie Walas

Julie Walas oversees the Newhouse School's recruitment, admissions and enrollment initiatives, as well as an awesome team of staff and students in the Visitor’s Center, which welcomes thousands of prospective undergraduate Newhouse students each year. In her role, she hopes to find the best students for the Newhouse School’s graduate and undergraduate programs. Julie and her team offer both virtual and in-person programming and events that highlight the Newhouse student experience and help new students find their fit here. She also plays a major role in Newhouse's student engagement operation, finding ways to build camaraderie and offer interesting experiences exclusive to Newhouse students. She joined the Newhouse staff in February 2021.

Walas has been with Syracuse University in various admissions, alumni and student facing roles since 2007. She also serves as the coach of Syracuse’s beloved Mascot program: Otto the Orange.

She is a graduate of the Newhouse School.
