Jay Clewis

Jay Clewis joined the Newhouse School in fall 2025 and teaches courses in strategic communications and digital product innovation. Before joining Syracuse University, Clewis was a lecturer of communication and design at the USC Iovine and Young Academy at the University of Southern California. There, he taught human-centered design, interactive storytelling, content marketing and entrepreneurship. He has also taught as an adjunct professor at the Newhouse School and ASU's Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication. 

Earlier in his career, Clewis spent more than 15 years leading editorial content teams at Syracuse.com and digital product teams at Advance Local. He held several leadership roles at Syracuse.com, including sports producer, senior producer, managing producer, and ultimately editor-in-chief, before transitioning into digital product management at Advance Local. With a background in design, development, and journalism, his work centered on creating interactive content experiences and driving digital product innovation.

Clewis earned an M.S. in new media management in 2005 from the Newhouse School and a B.A. in visual arts from Eckerd College in St. Petersburg, Florida in 1996.
