Genaro Armas ’94, G’95 oversees communications for the Newhouse School, including publications, web, social media, recruitment marketing and special events publicity. Before Newhouse, he worked in marketing and communications at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and served as public relations manager before returning to his alma mater. At UWM, he worked on various projects including university publications; enrollment marketing efforts; educational initiatives that promoted inclusivity, diversity, equity and accessibility; partnerships with higher and secondary institutions in the southeastern Wisconsin; and a university research podcast.
Before moving into higher education, Armas spent more than two decades as a journalist with The Associated Press. He covered everything from political conventions to the Sandusky crisis at Penn State University, and the Rio Olympics to college and professional sports. While at the AP, he worked in Albany, New York; Philadelphia; Washington, D.C.; State College, Pennsylvania; and Milwaukee.
He earned a bachelor's degree in magazine, news and digital journalism from the Newhouse School and a master's degree in political science from the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs.
