A former film publicist (Fox Searchlight and United Artists/MGM) and consumer analytics (Nielsen) professional, Carolyn Hedges has a diverse background in various media industries as they pertain to audience behavior and consumption. Her varied background informs her teaching and scholarship rooted in the economic systems and cultural contexts our media operate today. Much of her scholarly work revolves around online education, diversity and inclusion in the field of mass communication, and popular culture studies.
Hedges is the recipient of 2021-22 Teaching Recognition Award for Early Performance and was named a 2021 Kopenhaver Center Fellow.
She earned an undergraduate degree from Duke University, and master’s and doctoral degrees from the Newhouse School.
