Bio: Anuradha K. Herath is a doctoral student in mass communications at Syracuse University’s S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications. Prior to joining Newhouse, Herath served as a lecturer at a number of institutions in New York City including Fordham University, the Borough of Manhattan Community College, NYC College of Technology and Pace University. She continues to serve as an adjunct lecturer at the City College of New York. Herath began her career in journalism, working in print, broadcast and online media in the United States and Sri Lanka with her work appearing in the Los Angeles Times, CNN International, and Space.com. After nearly 15 years as a journalist, Herath pursued a public sector role in Sri Lanka, serving as the director general of international affairs and director of international media for the offices of the Prime Minister and President of Sri Lanka. These experiences sparked Herath’s interest in political communication that coupled with an interest in studying conflict, having personally experienced the conflict in Sri Lanka where she was born. Herath comes to Newhouse with an interest in exploring the role of political communication in international relations during times of conflict with a regional focus on the Israeli-Palestinian region and South Asia.
