Alia Smith is an attorney who has been practicing media law for more than 20 years. She provides litigation, counseling, risk management and training services to numerous media clients, from large national publishers and broadcasters to small, local newspapers and websites. Her areas of expertise include defamation, privacy, newsgathering torts, FOIA/open government, reporters’ privilege and copyright.
She earned her B.A. in journalism from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and her J.D. from the George Washington University Law School.
