“The University of Florida is getting one of the best,” says Newhouse dean Mark J. Lodato. “Hub Brown is an accomplished, respected leader in communications education and embodies the very best of the Newhouse School. He will be sorely missed, but we are happy for this wonderful new chapter for Hub and his family.”

Brown, an associate professor of broadcast and digital journalism, joined the Newhouse faculty in 1996 and has served as associate dean for research, creativity, international initiatives and diversity for 11 years. As associate dean, he helped support the scholarly and creative agendas of Newhouse faculty members and expand the school’s international engagement. He also worked to strengthen diversity in the school’s curriculum and faculty, and established a series of forums for students of color to come together and share their experiences. Brown’s work helped the Newhouse School secure the Equity and Diversity Award from the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication (AEJMC) earlier this year.

“I’m tremendously excited about making a difference at the helm of one of the nation’s largest and most well-regarded journalism and communications programs,” Brown wrote in a note to the Newhouse community, “and I am grateful that these years among you at this great school have prepared me for this opportunity like nothing else could.”
