The Scripps Howard Leadership Academy at Newhouse is an immersive training program designed for higher education leaders or those interested in learning about the challenges and rewards of leading an academic institution, including deans, associate deans, department chairs, faculty and experienced journalists.

This highly selective program educates and prepares participants to pursue leadership positions at journalism and mass communications schools.
The Scripps Howard Leadership Academy at Newhouse featured an invited cohort of 16 participants in 2023, with the program held for the first time at Syracuse. The Academy returned after a several-year hiatus thanks to a generous gift from the Scripps Howard Fund.

The theme of the 2023 Scripps Howard Leadership Academy at Newhouse is “Innovating in Transformative Times.” The Academy focuses on the challenges facing journalism and mass communications schools and industry, as changing demands test the relevancy of programs today.

This training program is a partnership between the Newhouse School and the Scripps Howard Fund. The Scripps Howard Leadership Academy was previously hosted by Louisiana State University’s Manship School of Mass Communication.
