The Newhouse School is home to three Department of the Navy sponsored programs that teach active-duty Sailors and Marines advanced multimedia storytelling.

The Newhouse School is home to a Department of the Navy sponsored program that offers three focused areas of study: Advanced Photojournalism and Advanced Graphic Design which are based in the visual communications department, and Advanced Motion Media based in the broadcast and digital journalism and television, radio and film departments.
The students enrolled in Advanced Military Visual Journalism serve in the Navy or Marine Corps as mass communication specialists, public affairs professionals, photographers, graphic designers, and videographers. Service members come to Newhouse for 10 months, completing coursework in communications, photography, journalism, design, sound, and documentary production. Students gain strong storytelling skills, earn 30 credits toward an undergraduate degree, and can matriculate to Newhouse with successful completion.
