Media Studies Master’s Funding

You may work as an instructional associate, helping faculty in the classroom. We also hire students as research assistants, giving you the opportunity to aid faculty with their research and creative projects. These types of positions can help you gain and apply the skills you need in the classroom and in conducting your own research.

In addition, we help you find scholarships and fellowships.  Here is a list of funding opportunities:

Program funding

• Instructional associateships You may apply to work as an instructional associate and help Newhouse faculty with their undergraduate classes. Some positions grant tuition scholarships as well as an hourly wage. Positions are typically 10-15 hours per week.
• Research assistantships: As a research assistant, you support Newhouse faculty with their research and creative work. These positions are typically hourly, with students working up to 20 hours per week.
• Liu Foundation Multicultural Scholarships: These awards are available to outstanding applicants who demonstrate financial need, have a background and/or interest in multicultural communications, and demonstrate a career interest related to multicultural communications. • African-American Studies Fellowships: You may compete in a university-wide competition for a one-year fellowship. Find more information on the Syracuse University Graduate School web site.

Travel funding

At Newhouse, we encourage our academic master’s students to present at national and international conferences. To that end, we offer you generous financial support to travel and present at conferences.

Thesis funding

As a media studies student, you’ll be eligible for funding as you research and write your thesis.
