Virtual Events Series Celebrates 60 Years of Newhouse Alumni Achievements

A new virtual event series will offer industry insights from alumni across media and communications and celebrate 60 years of exceptional achievements by Newhouse graduates in honor of the school’s milestone anniversary.

The four-part series begins with the Oct. 3 panel “Celebrating 60 Years of Storytelling,” which focuses on graduates of the Newhouse School’s journalism program.  A Nov. 14 panel will celebrate alumni achievements in advertising and public relations.

Dates for panels in spring 2025 focusing on television and entertainment, as well as sports, will be announced in the future.

Established in 1964 thanks to the visionary commitment of publisher Samuel I. Newhouse, the school has trained generations of journalism graduates who have gone to write, produce, host, edit and lead newsrooms across the country.

Guests for the first panel discussion include:

Newhouse School Dean Mark Lodato will moderate the discussion. The panel will provide perspective about journalism through the decades, discuss current industry trends and look forward at the future of media.

Each virtual event will also include a trivia contest, with a prize for the winner. Chris Velardi ’95, director of digital engagement and communications in the Syracuse University Office of Alumni Engagement, will serve as host for the series.

It costs $10 to join each discussion. Proceeds will support the Newhouse Student Opportunity Fund,  which was established in honor of the Newhouse School’s 60th anniversary to assist students with off-campus experiential learning. These opportunities can include an international benchmark or immersion trip, an industry conference or a semester taking classes or doing an internship in places like Los Angeles, New York or Washington, D.C.
