The Newhouse office dedicated to nurturing a culture grounded in respect and inclusion at the nation’s top communication’s school is getting a new name this summer.
The Office of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Accessibility (DEIA) was previously known as the Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Accessibility (IDEA) office. The new name aligns with the name of Syracuse University’s Office of Diversity and Inclusion and its focus on advancing DEIA initiatives and fostering a campus environment where everyone feels welcome and valued.
“Our commitment to preparing students to lead industries in an increasingly diverse nation and world is as strong as ever,” said Rockell Brown Burton, associate dean of DEIA at Newhouse. “Our goal is to ensure that it is actualized throughout our school, from the curriculum to extracurricular activities to procedures for hiring and recruitment.”
Among recent new initiatives, Newhouse hosted its first immersion program for students from historically Black colleges and universities. The event earlier this month drew attendees interested in media entrepreneurship or sports reporting.
